Wilkinson Star are one of the UK’s leading importers and wholesale distributors of industrial and welding equipment. Good quality communications infrastructure is important to them with their daily contact with customers via telephone and email vital to their business. With a remote office, they also need to maintain a secure and stable link.

The brief

We introduced the independent wireless final mile network to Wilkinson Star, while the Network looked to improve infrastructure in an area with poor business connectivity options. Metrotech had found multiple companies, on Wardley Industrial Estate, struggling with ADSL connections which failed to meet business needs.

If Wilkinson Star’s infrastructure fails, they are unable to communicate effectively with Customers and their Suppliers. Negatively affecting their high level of customer service and business relations. Previous IT infrastructure did not provide the speed and reliability needed for their business operations and was not meeting requirements. Also, the traditional ISDN30 was not giving value for money with the high costs on both rental and call rates.

Cathy Ashcroft, Wilkinson Star’s IT & Communications Manager with over 25 years IT experience and 22 years with the company, wanted to make a change.

We worked closely with Cathy to assess the companies’ current and future requirements in order to offer the Independent Wireless Final Mile service. This allowed Wilkson Star to choose a Managed 20Mb Wireless Final Mile Leased line, with a low fixed install cost without the worry of high excess construction charges likely with fibre links, due to their office location.

Since the implementation of the Wireless Leased Line service Wilkinson Star have been able to take advantage of the cost savings with Metrotech’s IP Talk – SIP Trunks. Metrotech were happy to work with Wilkinson Star’s existing PBX and hardware maintainer to achieve the move away from ISDN to VoIP using SIP.

With both of Wilkinson Star’s core communications infrastructure now provided by Metrotech, the ongoing relationship and support provided must stay at the highest level. With account meetings and direct support contacts to provide help when needed.
